Guiding Principles
As a pioneer in the durable carbon removal marke, Carbonfuture has a unique responsibility to not only mitigate the negative environmental impacts of our business operations, but to share these impacts with full transparency. Though our growth as a start-up will naturally lead to increased carbon emissions over time, we are committed to reducing these to the greatest extent possible and to sustainably and responsibly remove the rest through high-quality, durable CDR credits. We will document this journey with the assistance of trusted, neutral third parties. These organizations will independently review and verify the results of our reduction efforts.
Our Process
As a remote company with personnel on three continents, the bulk of our emissions activity are Scope 3 emissions, or indirect emissions that occur throughout the entire value chain. These include business travel and transportation, purchased goods, business services, and waste generation and disposal. The remaining Scope 1 & 2 emissions are direct emissions from sources owned by Carbonfuture, and indirect emissions from energy, heating and cooling purchased by the company.

The assessment and calculation of our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions are based on the guidelines outlined by the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. Beginning in 2024, the results were reviewed and verified by a neutral third party. The resulting balance of these emissions, along with an extra 10% assurance bonus, is earmarked for compensation with durable carbon removals purchased by Carbonfuture.
